The Boys & Girls Club of West Orange The Star Program Initiative (RED, BLUE, GOLD, SILVER, GREEN), will encourage our members to participate in our Boys& Girls Club Programs. Record member involvement on your star charts posted on your wall. For a member to get a star, all activities must be planned and facilitated by a staff member. 10 Stars, any color = prize Fridays, every 2 weeks, mark your calendars. Education & Career (Red Star) =Intelligent, Mindful, Intuitive, Academic, Studious Power Hour: Test/Homework stars Education/Thinking games: Puzzles, Sp Bee’s, Scrabble, Geography, Debates, Words… Storytellers/Book Club: Older kids tell or read stories to younger kids, all get stars Business Club/ Architect Club: Lego’s, Craft Sticks, Paper, etc. The Arts (Blue Star) = Performer, Artistic, Musician, Talented, Creative Arts & Craft activities Drama Matters (skits, plays, magic performances, puppets, etc) Anything Music related – practicing, performing, instructing Talent Show planners, practices and competitors Smart Moves Art Projects Sports, Fitness, & Recreation (Gold Star) = Competitive, Fit, Active, Encouraging, Strong Triple Play and Fit Club Board Game Competitions ( Uno, Connect 4, Bingo, Monopoly, Cards, etc.) Sport Competitions (kickball, football, soccer, relays, jump rope, etc.) Smart Moves Recreation Activities Health & Life Skills (Silver Star) = Desire to be healthy and fit Smart Moves: Drug, Alcohol, Violence Awareness Healthy Habits: Good Nutrition Safety: Firefighters, police, stranger safety, safe internet, safe home, Character & Leadership (Green Star) = Compassionate, Kind, Altruistic, Others/ Self Development Torch Club: Special Boys & Girls Club Program discusses needs and projects Group (teamwork) activities, public speaking, and ice breaker activities Young Tutor Program: Older kids help younger kids finish homework. Program Cleanliness and Organization Writing Club: Letters of Appreciation to parents, teachers, administration, etc. Smart Moves Leaders
Smart Moves: A program and initiative teaching kids about not using drugs, alcohol, violence, and postponing sexual activity using our various core areas. Education & Career Activities and Programs Book / Story Tellers Club: book club to discuss current books the kids are reading, encourage kids to tell draw a picture, build something, and then tell a story about it, Have the older kids read books to the k and 1st graders. Business Club:The facilitator will show and encourage kids how to run their own small business using the forms in the folder Thinking Games/Debate: Scrabble or other word games, puzzles, geography games, math games, any type of debate between the kids on issues, and type of game that requires thinking, etc. Architect Club: The facilitator will encourage a group of students to Build structures or vehicles using any type of material; paper, craft sticks, cardboard, foil, plastic, Legos, Lincoln logs, etc. The Arts Arts & Crafts: For ideas look in your folder or create your own Painting, coloring, drawing, gluing, designing, holiday crafts, Poster Decorating (all about me or them posters)craft sticks, glittering, pipe cleaner projects, sports event signs, etc. Drama Club: Look in your folder or create your own ideas TNT drama book, Shorts skits, free acting, prop acting , charades games, plays , play writing, monologues, Musical (study on musicals), classics, imitating, anti drug skits, Holiday/Season Theme Coordinators: responsible for seasonal and holiday craft ideas and decorations. Sports, Fitness, & Recreation Sports Competitions: (k-2) (3-5) A big sports competitions one every couple of weeks, where the Arts and Crafts group can make cheer signs for the each team. Kickball, basketball, dodge ball, softball, soccer, ultimate football, bowling, Fitness/Exercise: Daily exercises…. stretching, jumping jacks, sit-ups, push ups, jogging, aerobics, jumping games, throwing arm strength, jump roping, etc. Board Game Competitions: One to two a week with (k-2) (3-5). Connect 4, monopoly, Scrabble, Uno, Cards, Dominos, Bingo, etc. Health and Life Skills Healthy Habits and Safety Discussions : This facilitator will speak on eating healthy foods. They will discuss with kids what are healthy and what are not healthy. They will also facilitate safety discussions on, internet safety, strangers, fire safety, emergency situations, Character & Leadership Group Activities/Ice Breakers: look in the folder for group activities Torch Club: this person will facilitate getting a group of leaders in their program to discuss how to help the program and reach out to others using activities in the folder. Public Speaking: Getting a group of kids who want to learn to speak in front of others and rid their fears. Free speaking, outlines, and written speeches. Topics: self introduction (one sentence), then 2 sentences and so on, favorite hobby and why, likes and dislikes, public issues, debating in front of a group, big speech.
